Heidi’s Hope for Homeless Animals


The mission of Heidi's Hope for Homeless Animals Lifesaving Animal Advocacy Program is to save homeless dogs and cats in our community, and keep pets out of shelters and in their homes where they belong. It is a 501 ( c ) 3 organization committed to saving the lives of homeless dogs and cats, the most vulnerable and at risk of euthanasia. Their mission is: “From Homeless to a Home…Until there is a day when there are no more homeless or abused dogs or cats. We won’t stop until every dog and cat has a good home!”

Plastic Ocean Project


Every minute, the equivalent of one garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our ocean. Plastic pollution is a global problem. Approximately 7 billion of the 9.2 billion tonnes of plastic produced from 1950-2017 became plastic waste, ending up in landfills or dumped. ​​Plastic Ocean Project, Inc. 501(c)3 mission is dedicated to the protection of human and environmental health by mitigating the plastic pollution crisis. They envision a world free of plastic pollution by empowering everyone to make more scientifically-informed choices for their health and the environment. Their values include:

First Fruit Ministries

First Fruit focuses on supportive housing for women and families and street outreaches including street feeding programs, food pantry service, outreach to home-bound widows, and a day shelter which provides medical care, emergency services, and housing referrals. In 2004/2005 First Fruit purchased and renovated property in the Long Leaf Park area. There, a ministry campus was developed that features:

  • 12 beds of transitional housing for single women
  • 2 transitional housing units for families
  • 2 permanent supportive housing apartments

They also have an outreach center that includes: 

  • A medical center
  • Therapist’s office
  • 6 shower rooms
  • A recreational space
  • A Food Pantry
  • A commercial kitchen
  • A dining hall
  • Community meeting space
  • Separate houses for male and female Urban Missionaries who serve throughout the ministry.

WARM NC's mission is to repair, rebuild, and make homes accessible; and to inspire service, generosity, and hope in the community. Serving low-income homeowners in Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, and Pender counties, many of whom are elderly, disabled, and/or veterans. WARM provides safety to the elderly and disabled by preventing home accidents and illnesses - preserving their dignity and independence. WARM and their many partners work together to provide critical services to build generational wealth through homeownership.

A Bike for Every Child

A Bike For Every Child collects new and gently used bikes from the community, refurbishes them, and gives the bikes and new helmets to kids and adults who need one. A powerful mission in the community that is changing lives one bike at a time! Getting involved is simple, you can do so 1 of 3 ways (or all 3 ways!).
